The “Not Another Nickel” campaign demands not another nickel to tax breaks for corporations that profit from war, human rights abuses, environmental devastation, and violations of international law. These tax breaks steal funding that otherwise would be invested in vital resources for our communities, like funding for our St. Louis public schools.
St. Louis has been a hub for weapons manufacturers for too long. From providing supplies and orders to U.S. troops fighting the colonial "Indian Wars" of the 1800's to processing uranium for building the first atomic bomb at Mallinckrodt Chemical Works, St. Louis has long been the Midwest’s center for the military industrial complex.
That legacy continues, as we are home to producers of munitions and fighter jets used in genocide against Palestinians. Corporations here in our backyards who are complicit in human rights violations, like Boeing, Israel Chemicals Ltd (ICL), and General Dynamics, benefit from tax incentives that exempt them from paying tens of millions in property taxes.
St. Louisans continue to bear the burden of economic and environmental devastation in exchange for the profits of military contractors and weapons manufacturers. It’s time we demand our city serve our wards instead of war! Join us by signing this pledge today!
